Negev Divide

Throughout 2025, Israel remained engulfed in the war in Gaza and the conflict with Iran, while the confrontation with Hezbollah had yet to reach its end. The country was still governed by the same coalition members responsible for the attempted judicial overhaul, the deep divisions and weakening of Israeli society, and the flawed security doctrine that led to the October 7 massacre. Every Saturday night, people gathered to support the families of the hostages, demanding a deal and their release. Once a month that year, I took a break. I picked up my camera and headed out across the Negev to photograph, to disconnect, and to forget the war and the pain. To escape the news and breathe in the silence. "In the desert, you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain" So sings America. Inspired by Henry Wessel's Continental Divide, I set out into the desert โ€” a place where you can forget your name.
